Collection: Aesthetic Movement - Aestheticism
The Aesthetic Movement was a late nineteenth century movement sustained that art should not be confined to painting, sculpture, and architecture, but should be a part of everyday life. Aestheticism supported metalwork, fashion, furniture-making, ceramics, and interior design.
The slogan “art for art’s sake”, the usual English rendering of l'art pour l'art, is associated in the Aesthetic Movement and expresses the philosophy that there was no connection between art and morality, the arts should provide refined sensuous pleasure.
