This elegant wood brooch focuses on one of the most refined details in Flemish Renaissance portraiture: a male hand delicately holding a small pink flower against a deep blue background, from the Self Portrait (c.1519) of Joos van Cleve (c.1485–1540/41), now at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid. Also known as Joos van der Beke, this Antwerp master served as court portraitist to Francis I of France and is believed to have painted Henry VIII of England — one of the most travelled and cosmopolitan painters of the Northern Renaissance.

The detail is intimate yet commanding — a perfect statement piece for the modern art-loving man, an artist, or anyone who appreciates the quiet elegance of historical portraiture. A truly unisex jewellery piece that transcends trends.

Each brooch is handcrafted in my studio in Granada, Spain. The wood used comes from FSC-certified suppliers as a raw material; the final product is not FSC-certified. The back is covered with soft black felt and fitted with a secure brooch pin.

Rain and humidity are not a problem, but avoid showering, bathing, swimming, or going in the sea while wearing it.
