The Artwork: Bosch's The Haywain

• Left panel: God creates Eve from Adam's rib while rebel angels fall from Heaven. The serpent tempts Adam and Eve, leading to their expulsion from Eden.
• Central panel: A massive hay wagon surrounded by humanity consumed by sin and folly. Christ watches from above as an angel atop the wagon prays — but the crowd remains oblivious to divine judgment.
• Right panel: The wagon is drawn into Hell by demonic beings, completing Bosch's moral allegory.
• Exterior (closed): The wings reveal a painted landscape with a lone traveller — a meditation on life's journey.
