These handmade art earrings bring one of the most fascinating riddles of art history directly into your style. Inspired by the Portrait of a Woman of the Hofer Family (ca. 1470), an elegant Swabian masterpiece of the German Renaissance, this piece isolates the painting's most eccentric detail: a meticulous musca depicta (painted fly) perched on the subject's striking white headdress.
A famous Renaissance trompe-l’œil trick used by painters to demonstrate their mastery, fool the eye, or symbolise mortality and lighthearted wit — now worn as a bold piece of wearable art.
These square statement earrings measure approximately 4cm x 3.5cm with a 3mm thickness, finished with 925 sterling silver hooks. Crafted from sustainable wood sourced from FSC-certified suppliers, they are exceptionally lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear. Combining the unique elegance of the original German portrait with an eccentric, playful twist, these quirky dark academia earrings act as a focal point and a conversation starter designed to bring a smile to those who admire them.
Each pair is individually designed and manually cut in my artisanal workshop in Granada, Spain. My creative process is slow and entirely manual, completely removed from industrial mass production. No two pieces are exactly identical, giving your pair its own authentic character. While atmospheric humidity and a few drops of rain are not a problem, please avoid direct contact with water: do not wear while bathing, showering, or swimming.

The primary raw material used is FSC-certified sustainable pine wood. Each wooden element is manually processed and cut by the artisan using a circular saw, then finished by hand.
Metal Components:
Our designs incorporate stainless steel and 925 sterling silver. All metal components (including chains, clasps, and jump rings) are sourced from a network of trusted professional suppliers. Each supplier provides guarantees that their materials meet rigorous quality standards and are fully compliant with REACH regulations regarding nickel, lead, and cadmium content.
