Joos van Cleve Hand with Carnation Necklace

This sustainable necklace features a meticulously reinterpreted detail inspired by the Northern Renaissance master Joos van Cleve (Joos van der Beke) and his famous Self-Portrait (circa 1519) housed in the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid. Designed in my atelier in Granada, Spain, this piece connects historic art heritage with contemporary elegance, transforming a historic masterpiece into a wearable work of art.

My creative process focuses on isolating precise elements from historic paintings to create a distinct statement piece. This pendant isolates the refined detail of the artist's hand holding a delicate pink carnation, which beautifully stands out against the dark tones of his garments. Historically associated with nuptial portraits and his marriage to Anna Vijdts, this emblem of fidelity is conceived not simply as an ornament, but as an object of meaning and a conversation starter, making it an ideal choice for museum art enthusiasts, those who appreciate art history, and the dark academia aesthetic.

Every single piece is entirely handmade, meaning no two items are exactly identical. I use responsibly sourced wood from suppliers with FSC-certified materials, supporting slow fashion and planet conservation. These pieces are designed for lasting quality; when preserved with care and treated properly, they remain highly resilient over time.
