A wearable piece of botanical history designed to spark curiosity and begin a conversation. Inspired by the pioneering spirit of Mary Delany (1700–1788), these contemporary statement earrings feature the dramatic black and white elegance of her iconic "paper-mosaicks," specifically celebrating the intricate form of the Sea Lily flower. For Obljewellery, creating jewelry is not simply about making a beautiful object, but about crafting a unique talking point that provokes wonder. Mary Delany discovered her artistic calling later in life during her frequent stays at Bulstrode, the country estate of her close friend, the Dowager Duchess of Portland. United by a deep kinship in botany, the two women explored the countryside for unique specimens. Through this circle, Mary became acquainted with the eminent historic botanists Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander, a profound connection that fueled the rigorous scientific knowledge behind her breathtakingly accurate flower paper-cuttings.
Meticulously handcrafted in the Spanish studio from FSC-certified sustainable wood, these charming, artsy earrings offer an arresting, quirky design with an ultra-lightweight feel for exceptional everyday comfort. Measuring approximately 3 cm by 3.5 cm, the striking floral motifs are paired with premium 925 sterling silver hooks to ensure elegance and durability. To preserve the artisanal finish of the wood, please avoid direct contact with water. The pair arrives beautifully presented in handmade, plastic-free designer packaging, accompanied by an educational information card detailing Mary Delany's extraordinary life and legacy. It stands as a sophisticated, affordable, and deeply meaningful gift for a mother, sister, or best friend, or an evocative self-treat for anyone who treasures the poetry of vintage botanical art.
