Wear the Mona Lisa of the Netherlands.
These handmade earrings are inspired by Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665) by Johannes Vermeer — one of the most iconic paintings in art history, now housed at the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague.
Technically, this is not a portrait but a tronie — a typical Dutch 17th-century genre depicting an anonymous face to showcase an artist's skill. The mysterious girl, dressed in an oriental turban, turns to look directly at us, lips slightly parted as if about to speak. Her pale skin, pearl earring and luminous gaze glow against a deep black background.
Vermeer painted her using ultramarine blue — the most expensive pigment of the time — despite his own financial struggles. He painted only two works a year and had eleven children to support.
These lightweight art earrings are designed and handmade without any industrial process, using sustainable wood and sterling silver hooks. Every piece arrives ready to gift in a sustainable envelope designed by Obljewellery.
A timeless art gift for her — as mysterious and beautiful as the painting itself.
